Kris is an artist who channels a palpable creative energy into his art, which is often expressed through vibrant, shape-driven, and colorful works. His artistic journey began in childhood, starting with a foundational lesson in cursive writing at age five, and from that point, he has been drawing ever since. Hilles approaches his creative work with a simple yet powerful intention: to do what makes him happy.

Once in high school Hilles had the space to explore his art in multiple ways including painting shirts and shoes which he started selling in Little Hawaii Surf Shop on Hollywood Beach. During the last year of high school he won the Gold Key award for the entire country. A Gold Key award is the highest regional honor in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for a student in grades 7–12, signifying outstanding achievement in the quality of work and artistic potential.

“I buy plain Toms shoes and paint them! I started a company called Ocean Artwear as a teenager and still own it. Nowadays I work out of my spacious garage. Music, pencil, paper and start thinking about shapes and blank spaces and where they eye is going to go. I turn music on in my garage… a pencil, paper, scribble something I like, shape-wise. Go back with a darker pen or pencil, start thinking about blank space and shapes. Start thinking about where the eye is going to go.
