The Artist
Ana Noble is a contemporary Puerto Rican painter whose expressive work in watercolors and acrylics captures the quiet beauty, rich heritage, and vibrant landscapes of her homeland. Born and raised in the historic city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ana's creative instincts began to surface during her youth. Recognizing her talent early on, she began her formal artistic education at the age of fourteen under the guidance of Professor Fran Cervoni. This initial period of mentorship was vital to her growth; under Cervoni’s instruction, she focused rigorously on the fundamentals of classical composition, dedicating her early years to mastering the texture and precision required for still-life oil painting. This foundational discipline gave her a deep understanding of light and shadow that would inform her work for decades to come.
As her artistic curiosity matured, Ana felt a desire to move beyond the structure of traditional oils and experiment with more fluid mediums. This led her to transition into watercolors and acrylics, fields where she could explore lighter strokes and more translucent layering.
Her artistic development reached a turning point when she began studying under Guillermo Sureda, a prominent Spanish watercolorist who had made Puerto Rico his longtime home. Sureda’s refined techniques and masterful handling of water-based mediums left a lasting impression on Ana. Under his tutelage, her approach to painting evolved significantly, as she absorbed his exquisite sense of style and learned to integrate his methods into her own developing perspective, particularly when tackling complex watercolor subjects.
